Spencer Mann: Director

I have 15 years of experience working with non-profits, social economy businesses, co-ops, and government agencies.  I do part-time Web Communications work to fund my full-time volunteer work with social movements and community groups.  This means that I know the on the ground reality of non-profits and that I’m not trying to use your work to aggressively grow my business.  I take on a small number of contracts and I manage the work carefully.  I also coordinate a Canadian project, Commun-IT, which helps community groups use technology to better realize their missions.

2004 – 2009
Sustainability Solutions Group – Consultant
Consulted with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) of the Federal Canadian Government on their Net Zero Energy Healthy Housing Program.  In this role I coordinated and facilitated national design competitions and related to affordable and ecological housing. 

2007 – 2012
Centre for Community Organizations – Governance and Communications Coordinator and Facilitator
Coordinated COCo’s internal governance structures as well as internal and external communications.  In my role as a trainer and facilitator with COCo I also worked with dozens of community groups across Quebec on topics such as strategic planning, communication and technology planning, and movement building.

Centre for Community Organizations – Commun-IT Coordinator
Piloted and developed the Commun-IT Program to help community groups strategically use ICT tools and strategies to better realize their missions.  In this role I worked with dozens of community groups on website design and development, communications and technology planning, CRMs and engagement management, videography, graphic design, and more.

VoiceRaiser – Coordinator and Lead Consultant
Launched and developed start-up communications business focused on non-profits and small businesses.  In this role I consulted with non-profits and small businesses on all aspects of their communications needs from planning to social media strategy to branding to web development, to videography.

In this role I focused on project management and development related to architecture and urban planning, affordable housing, co-operative development, and food security.

In this role I focused on anti-oppression education and organizing within NASCO as well as expanding NASCO’s reach to community and affordable housing co-ops.

In this role I focused on outreach to organizers across the country involved in Peoples Movement Assemblies as well as documentation, videography, and database development.

In this role I focused on communications planning and training, website and CRM development, videography, graphic design and branding, as well as day to day coordination of communication channels.

In this role I assisted with shooting interviews and capturing large group dialogues of black workers from Detroit.

In this role I worked closely with the brother of a victim of a police shooting in Atlanta to create a feature documentary about police violence in the South.

Mekahel Francois: Producer & Videographer

Peace. My name is Mekahel, though since we’re family you can call me ‘Ki’. Spanning more than a decade of stories, struggle and faith I have experience standing with labor union and reproductive justice movements, activist scholars, non-profits, and communities of faith. My gifts stand at the intersection of identifying, developing, and leveraging resources to build power for the beloved community.

Service Employees Intl. Union (SEIU) – Field Organizer
In this role I helped non-union security officers and healthcare workers organize to build power in the workplace throughout Pennsylvania, Texas, Ohio, Colorado, and Missouri. During this time I also interfaced with community leaders to support direct actions and legislation benefiting working families. 

2009 – 2012
Service Employees Intl. Union- United Service Workers West (formerly SEIU local 1877) – Sr. Community/Political Organizer
In this role I focused on advocating with union members and community groups to hold local, state, and federal elected officials accountable. I authored letters, talking points, developed member leadership, and represented the union at key political and community events.

2012 – 2013
Chaplain
In this role I provided individual pastoral care to Elders, their families, and medical staff at a long term care facility serving Elders with early to late stage dementia and Alzheimer’s.

2014 – 2015
Strategic Planning Consultant
In this role I analyzed grant phases and outcomes to build an implementation timeline and field plan increasing accessibility for underrepresented communities seeking jobs in construction, healthcare, and hospitality industries. I also did a full program re-design to maximize wrap-around social services and reallocation of funding leading to increased recruitment and retention.

Cynthia Stillwell Casting – Casting Assistant
In this role I prepared required legal documents for cast, interfaced with governmental film offices, and authored application and supporting documents for theatrical permits. I also prepared research briefs for incoming scripts to evaluate script content and development.

In this role I have worked on a broad range of projects from documentary feature films on police violence to anti-racism conference documentation to sex education videos

Anna Lee-Popham: Project Coordinator, Multiplatform Projects

My experience working with social movements and community-based organizations has concentrated on project coordination and communications strategy and messaging. My focus is often on creating opportunities for skill-sharing and relationship-building, and managing the logistics to ensure a smooth and effective experience for all involved. I specialize in transmedia storytelling projects, which tell a cohesive story across multiple media.
